## Advisor Style & Mentorship As an undergrad in Maria’s lab, I really appreciated her supportive, flexible, and hands-on advising style. Unlike some PIs who lose track of their students’ projects or past discussions, Maria is always engaged and provides thoughtful, detailed feedback. She genuinely cares about her students’ growth and makes sure they get the guidance they need. Her mentorship made a huge difference in my research experience.
## Expectations for PhD Students Maria is both kind and supportive, but she also sets high expectations for research. Her PhD students work hard to meet those standards, but they’ve shared that she never applies unnecessary pressure—even when deadlines are tight. Instead, she creates a motivating environment where students push themselves because they want to, not because they feel forced to.
## Funding & Support There were news from the department about her getting grants from NSF, Google, etc., so I'm sure her lab should be well-funded.
