    ## Advisor Style & Mentorship

Comparatively laidback mentorship style however not in a way that could be considered neglectful. It is a large group of lab students and the group technically includes 2 labs within itself (one robotic focused and one cog motor focused) and so he is an individual with many responsibilities and demands on his time. He does engage in regular recurring meetings for students who wish to do so, but does not require it if it is not beneficial to a specific student. He generally has a fairly open door policy and we tend to drop by freely throughout the day and throughout the week when we need to discuss something with him.
He gives very meaningful career and life advice and I know that it has been meaningful for many of us to see that he personally has prioritized his own work-life balance and cares about leaving the lab so that he can be a present father as well as a good scientist.

    ## Expectations for PhD Students

Primary expectation is competency, effort, and clear communication. PhD students are mostly graduate teaching assistants who are teaching assistants for the lecture that he teaches which is an upper level core major requirement within the Kinesiology department. PhD students are expected to make continual progress however all deadlines and goalposts are established collaboratively.

    ## Funding & Support
    - longterm collaboration with Walter Reid and the VA hospital of D.C.
    - historic collaboration with ONR
    - UM STAR/ ADAPT

    ## Research
    - Human/Robot interaction
    - comparison of cognitive motor performance in remote vs. virtual vs. in-person evironments
    - cognitive motor performance using EEG (oscillatory, not ERP)
    - executive functioning with EEG metrics for clinical contexts

    ## Lab Culture

Friendly, warm, close, cooperative. Something that he specifically cares a great deal about.
This lab group believes very strongly in helping eachother with problem solving, technical skills, data collections, and in responsibility sharing whenever appropriate.

    Yes, I recommend this PI.
