## Advisor Style & Mentorship Very detached style, expect to spend your first 6 months being tossed around until you come up with your own project ideas. Ideally you'll have a clear plan of what you want to do from the start. In time you'll learn to ignore his input and just carry on with your work relying on the rest of the team and department. Best advice you'll get is in regards to relevant literature, don't expect your papers to be read unless you're willing to wait 3 months. Expect 1:1 meeting to be held on a he needs something from you basis and team meetings to be held 2 to 3 times per year. ## Expectations for PhD Students Once in, expectations are pretty low. You can work on what you want most of the time and slow progress is progress. You might get caught up in one of the phases where the PI needs to show some initial work for a funding proposal he's working on. As mentioned before, if you know what you want to do, there will be funding for it. Plenty of opportunities to travel. ## Research The research focuses on aerial interaction, aerial-aquatic robotics and environmental sensing. There's a clear push for "low hanging fruit" results, so many projects are abandoned at the proof of concept level. It's a good place to test many different ideas and iterate rapidly. ## Lab Culture Good lab culture, memebrs colaborate extensivelly and thre is no internal competition. There is however poor know-how retention, being almost impossible to make progress on earlier projects once the leading researcher has left.
