## Advisor Style & Mentorship Matt can be a very chill mentor if he thinks your research is going well, but if not, he's also very straightforward. ## Expectations for PhD Students He expects his PhD students to have an excellent writing ability, and he's experienced in terms of statistical analyses in R and using mixed-effect models. To be his student, you need to have a (half-)determined research direction that's related to psycholinguistics and/or speech perception and production. ## Funding & Support The department gets fundings from TGS at Northwestern, and students need to do TA or English tutoring to be funded. Matt doesn't give you money directly. ## Research You can find all his research studies on his personal website [link](https://faculty.wcas.northwestern.edu/matt-goldrick/#!/) ## Lab Culture There were 4 PhD students and 3 undergrads by the end of 2021. Some PhD students will help the undergrads figure out their honor thesis and be partnered with them based on research interest, but it's totally optional. Lab meeting's once a week at most (fewer meetings in summer quarters) and the culture is very self-motivated and chill.
