Following the mentorship guideposts provided by MIT ([link](https://oge.mit.edu/community-diversity/awards-recognition/committed-to-caring/mentoring-guideposts/)), Prof. Kamal is excellent. Literally every single guidepost he has demonstrated in my experience working under him, and I think most other students in his lab would definitely agree.
Only critique I have is that he doesn't meet often with his students; usually my meeting schedule with him is once or twice a month which is much less than most PI's. He gives students a lot of latitude to do what they want and investigate questions that interest them, but at the same time does not really give that much good technical advice and the student more or less has to figure things out on their own for the most part. Still, I believe his personal character traits and treatment of students + always advocating for them puts him well above most PI's in MechE and even the school more broadly.

Yes, I recommend this PI.
